I wonder what time it is…

I better not look.

It’s still dark outside. It must be the middle of the night. Why can’t I find sleep? Will I need cures for chronic insomnia?

These are the few questions going through my mind as I was laying in bed trying to fall asleep.

All that thinking didn’t help either but I was not able to stop thinking for some reason about all the things I would have to do on this friday.

That wasn’t really helping.

Then to make the things even worse I heard the faint noise of a lawnmore getting louder and louder.

The noise was coming from the left of the bed. Yes my dear husband was having a great night sleep even while making that snoring sound that I am sure the neighbors could here.

That’s it. I decided to go sleep in the next room. The guest room. I shot the door behind me, trying to isolate myself from all disturbances.

An hour later I was still starring at the ceiling and trying not to look at the alarm clock beside the bed. I know it would make matters even worse.

Question kept popping up in my mind like "I wonder if I have everything for the kids lunches. What should I be wearing for the friday meeting? My dentist appointment, was it on monday or tuesday? And so on…

I was going nuts. The night was not so dark anymore. Morning was slowly creeping in.

I don’t know what was happening to me. Since the last 3 weeks I would wake up in the middle of the night for no obvious reasons. Then it would take what it seems hours to fall back to sleep. When the morning came I was a reck due to the lack of sleep.

My eyes were burning and my face was all puffy. The day went painfully slow at work and I felt I was in a sort of mental daze. It was getting harder to take decisions due to fatigue. Was I starting to show some fatigue syndrome from my insomnia? My husband was starting to call it chronic insomnia. He kept telling me to go see the doctor. They know about cures for chronic insomnia, he kept telling me. I was replying in a crancky mood that it was NOT chronic insomnia!

I was thinking more in the line of some sort of sleep disorder due to I don’t know what reasons. But then again, was it or not chronic? Where do you draw the line? I had problems finding sleep for the last 3 weeks only in a way. Chronic seems like forever to me.

I have a good job, no anxiety, 2 beautiful kids in good health and a charming snoring husband but still it was no reason for all of a sudden to wake up in the middle of the night, every night for the past 3 weeks.

I tried few natural remedies mostly home type remedies like drinking herb teas after dinner. I went to lay down relaxing while reading a book. I even took some melatonine pills. I kept taking warm baths. Nothing seemed to work.

They must have cures for chronic insomnia somewhere even if I don’t feel like this is chronic sleep disorder…yet.

How long does it take before it is called chronic? I don’t know but whatever, it makes my life miserable.

As I was laying on my back I could hear the birds starting singing.

I could also feel myself going numb ready to go back to sleep finally.

Then the alarm clock went off…
